On this expedition we’ll be able to explore and photograph the world well-known Momotombo volcano, the fifth tallest and one of the hardest to climb in Nicaragua. The off road driving and the challenging hike as well as swiming in a volcanic lagoon will be a lifetime experience.

Momotombo with 1297 meters high is considered the most impressive and representative volcano of Nicaragua. It has been active since before the Spanish conquerors arrived in this teritory. This high, cone-shaped, smoking mountain exhibits all characteristics of a ‘traditional’ volcano. Every now and then strong seisms are measured around the volcano, this phenomenon has become quite common among people who live in the area.

The adventure begins  when your guide and driver pick you up at your hotel in León city and drive 50 minutes to the check point at the base of the volcano. From here we will turned out into 4×4 mode in order to reach the upper part of the forest aprox 500 meter above sea level. Finally we will enjoy a high difficult level hike for almost 5 up and down, we will use the trail called “La Loma Pelona” or “treeless mountain”. Due to resent activities it is not safe to climb to the summit but it is still possible to reach a lookout just below the summit with equally impressive views so do not forget to bring your camera.

Right after the unforgettable hike, it is time to take a fresh swim into the Asososca volcanic lagoon crystal waters. We will drive for no more than 30 minutes to get to the entrance of the trail where we need to hike again but just for a few minutes. We will discover this quiet lagoon of 500 meters (1500 feet) long, and surrounded of nature. Most important thing is that we can have fun into the natural spot formed inside a crater after eruptions. Always with the supervision and advice of your guide, you can immerse and swim or just taking pictures of this beauty.

Before we take you back to your hotel, we will enjoy a delicious typical lunch.We will be back at 03:00PM approximately.
