Leon City Tour & San Jacinto Mud Pots

If you are looking for a tour that combines history and nature, this option is ideal for you. First we explore a colonial city with a lot of history and traditions then we will move on to the country side and visit an area with great volcanic activity.

During this tour we will enjoy the charm of the historical, cultural, poetic, volcanic and revolutionary city of León, learning about the most important events carried out in the past and present times, we will visit museums, churches, art gallery and much more.

In the afternoon we will drive a few kilometes on flat good road into the countryside and visit the San Jacinto mud pots located right next to the community of the same name, this community stands right in the middle of the Maribios Volcanic Chain formed by a group of 10 volcanoes. This área has some tiny craters that splash hot mud and connect with several volcanoes. These fumaroles are formed due to the magmatic chambers located below the volcanic chain, originated by the magma that through a system of fractures and fissures in the earth’s crust heats water fed by the rains. Due to its proximity to hot magma, the water temperature is high and emerges in the form of gas and later return to its original state. The site is not very big but it is very interesting and even better we will be able to walk across and see holes in different sizes and colors.

The tour start at 08:30 in the morning and we’ll return in Leon city at 04:30 in the afternoon.
