After just 40 minutes transfer along the volcanic chain on excellent roads you will arrive to the town of Chichigalpa, very much known as the land of sugar cane and Nicaraguan rum. Here we will visit a very famous rum factory being able to learn in detail about the production, distillation and aging process of one of the most awarded rums in the world – FLOR DE CAÑA. During the tour you will be transported through six different stations on a kind of golf car run by renewable energy. During this process you will also learn about the history and manufacture of the rum having the chance to have a look inside a warehouse packed with thousands of barrels of rum and take a taste of the centenary 18 years while using all five senses like professionals do in a old private tasting room created by the Pellas family who founded this factory.

Finally you will move on into the Flor de Caña Museum/Bar and Gift-Shop. All these located inside the biggest rum barrel in the whole world. After that you’ll take a quick drive into Chichigalpa so you can observe a bit of the architecture and daily town life before heading back to your hotel in Leon.

This tour takes a minimum of 4 hours including transfers and it’s available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 am, 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
