Momotombo Volcano

This hike will allow us to explore and photograph the world well-known Momotombo volcano, the fifth tallest and one of the hardest to climb in Nicaragua. The off road driving and the challenging hike as well as swiming in a volcanic lagoon will  bring a lifetime experience.

Momotombo with 1297 meters high is considered the most impressive and representative volcano of Nicaragua. It has been active since before the Spanish conquerors arrived in this teritory. This high, cone-shaped, smoking mountain exhibits all characteristics of a ‘traditional’ volcano. Every now and then strong seisms are measured around the volcano, this phenomenon has become quite common among people who live in the area.

The adventure begins  when your guide and driver pick you up at your hotel and drive 50 minutes either to the check point at the base of the volcano or to the Managua lake shore. From here we will turned out into 4×4 mode in order to reach the upper part of the forest aprox 500 meter above sea level. Finally we will enjoy a high difficult level hike for almost 5 hours up and down. Due to resent activities it is not safe to climb to the summit but it is still possible to reach a lookout just below the summit with equally impressive views so do not forget to bring your camera.

Right after the hike we’ll be ready to go for a fresh swim into the Asososca volcanic lagoon crystal waters. We will drive for no more than 30 minutes to get to the entrance of the trail where we need to hike again but just for a few minutes. You will discover this quiet lagoon of 500 meters (1500 feet) long, and surrounded of nature. You will have fun into a natural spot formed inside a crater after eruptions while immersing, swimming or just taking pictures of this beauty.

Before returning to the hotel we will enjoy a typical snack and drink on the way finishing around 2pm
