Juan venado island

Juan venado island is an environmental wonder, an ideal location for nature lovers. Navigating between mangrove forest, spotting birds and a peaceful walk are just some of the attractions that you will enjoy in this tour.

The island is located just 22 kilometers from the city of Leon next to the pacific beach town Las peñitas. It comprises an area of tropical dry forest, mangroves and island estuary. Over the years this refuge has provided habitat to thousands of birds and  other wetland creatures such as crocodiles, iguanas, etcetera.

The Reserve also plays a very important role in the lives of many people who live nearby serving as a protective barrier against hurricanes and storms. It remains mostly unexplored so it is also an important nesting spot for sea turtles like the famous olive ridley turtle, only in season between August and February. While touring the reserve you will get out of your boat and walk a few hundred meters  across the island to visit an untouched volcanic sand beach where you can enjoy a private walk, swim or just relax while overlooking the ocean.

On your return to Leon you are going to make a final stop at the so called lookout point La Peña del Tigre or Tiger Rock. Here you will observe a couple of beautifull beaches, the Peñitas and Poneloya, one of them famous for surf events. If you come in the afternoon you will enjoy a spectacular sunset too.

you can start this tour either in the morning or in afternoon at 06:30a.m or 02:30p.m respectively. It is advisable to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, hat and camara.
