This is the perfect combination for those who want to go deeper in the history of Leon city while connecting with nature. You will be able to go back in time and learn about the origin, development and most secrets of the first spanish city founded in Nicaragua. Also you´ll discover the beautiful Asososca Lagoon, a volcanic lake of crystalline waters where a quick dip is a real treat!

The tour begins when you meet up with your guide and driver at your hotel and transfer during 45 minutes outside Leon City on good – flat road to the community of Puerto Momotombo right next to the Ruins of Leon Viejo. This archeological site was discovered 357 years after the original city was destroyed and buried by a volcano. The ruins are testimony of the social and economic structures of the Spanish Empire in the 16th century becoming a Heritage site of humanity as a symbol of spanish conquest. Here you will of course visit a numerous of ruins such as the firt cathedral, church, bank and fortress while you take some good pictures of volcanoes. After one hour walking tour we move on to the shores of Lake’s Managua by following sandy roads across the community of Momotombo really a good chance to take a closer picture of the impresive Momotombo Volcano. An interesting fact is that this community was settle down over the ruins and has survived to multiples hurricanes and earthquakes while a lot of people meet their needs selling fruits and fish.

After a photo session; you will go swimming to the Asososca Lagoon where we will have lunch and relax. Asososca is a clear water crater lagoon which is not easily visible from down below just need aprox 30 minutes te get there from the lake. Hiking down to the crater is not very hard. The slopes are not steep and the place provides some great views.

On your return to Leon city you will stop at La Paz Centro Town to visit a basic brick and tile factory and talk to an expert about the precess.  Finally you won’t finish the tour without first tasting  a ”Quesillo“, one of the most famous and typical dishes in Nicaragua.
