Kayak & Rum Factory
This adventure begins with a 90-kilometer drive on a good road from your hotel to Padre Ramos Nature Reserve, located on the Pacific coast. This journey will take you through numerous villages and cultivation areas with excellent views of the volcanic mountain range. After a few instructions, you willl begin paddling in calm waters through an estuary into the mangrove forest, enjoying incredible coastal views and observing a variety of birds. Within the mangroves, you will continue through narrow channels for approximately an hour and a half toward a second entrance, allowing for a free and open return trip to the starting point.
Upon returning to land, you will enjoy a traditionally prepared black clam Ceviche while preparing for lunch by the sea at a local diner in Jiquilillo, home to one of Nicaragua’s most beautiful beaches. After lunch, the adventure continues with a 45-minute transfer to the Flor de Caña Rum Factory in the Chichigalpa city, better known as the birthplace of sugarcane and Nicaraguan rum. You will learn about the history and production, distillation, and aging processes of one of the world’s most awarded rums. The tour includes visits to different areas of the factory and lasts an hour and a half. You will have the opportunity to see and taste various types of rum at different stages, from raw materials to the final product. Before starting your return to León city you can visit the Flor de Caña Museum/Bar & Gift Shop, located inside the world’s largest rum barrel within the factory.
It’s an 8-hour tour and it’s recommended to bring sunscreen, a hat, insect repellent, sunglasses and 2 liters of water per person.
