Telica camping

If you’re not as bothered about the comforts of a bed, or any real comforts for that matter, consider a camping trip. Despite Telica Volcano being one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua, it’s still possible to pitch a tent here. Camping on Telica Volcano also means enjoying a wonderful sunset and sunrise over Nicaragua’s impressive volcanic chain. The night sky atop the Nicaragua volcanoes is quite special!
This adventure begins with a two hours drive in an all-terrain vehicle through small communities, farmlands and dry tropical forest. After a wild off road experience you will reach the hike start point right next to a family house. From here you will complete a 40 minutes walk on a single track trail between trees towards a picturesque camping spot. It’s a small site with a picnic bench and fire pit. Through the few trees surrounding the site, it is possible to view the Telica Volcano crater. And perhaps with that, a little volcanic activity.
Afterwards, when the tents are set up, you will hike again on another trail who takes you to appreciate another perspective of the volcano view, this hike to the first real viewpoint, just above the campsite, is fantastic. The views are extensive in every direction, there are a lot of vegetation surrounding and volcanoes, otherwise we are going to get one of the best sunsets ever heading toward the Pacific Ocean. After certain time watching the sunset, we will come back to the campsite and get ready for a traditional dinner.
The next day, in the early morning, we will prepare to hike a couple of minutes to a new viewpoint and wait for the fascinating sunrise who illuminate the crater of the volcano, this actually provides the best viewpoint to see the whole of Telica Volcano crater. You can even spy San Cristobal Nicaragua’s tallest volcano, in the distance. The views are wonderful, then we will walk back to the campsite to have a delicious breakfast and come back for the same trail of the beginning where our transport is to take us back to the león city.
